Euphoniums
Return to Band Members
Ian Plant - Principal Euphonium

Ian (or Planty as he is known by everybody except
his Mum), currently lives in Elland and is one of the OLD Hebden
Bridge stalwarts, playing with the band for over twenty five years
on and off. He learnt to play originally at our neighbours 'Friendly
Band', where they saw his potential and palmed him off on us quickly!
Subsequently we have not been able to get rid of him despite making
him Chairman four out of five years recently. He gave
up the Chairman position to concentrate on alcohol research for
a while, but is now back in the hotseat.
Martin Crosby - 2nd Euphonium

Martin started playing the Baritone with the Scunthorpe Royal
British Legion Junior Band aged seven. While watching his older
brother on Trombone, an old sailor with a hook nose threatened
he’d make Martin walk the plank if he didn’t take up
an instrument. Martin needed no more encouragement!!! Moving on
to Euphonium a few years later Martin played in various bands around
the Scunthorpe area. After a stint at University in London playing
trombone with Ercol Band, Martin moved to Leeds and joined Yeadon
Old Band where he went back to the Euphonium. Following a short
break from playing Martin joined Stanley Newmarket Colliery Band
on second trombone joining his brother. Martin joined Hebden Bridge
in 2007 on 2nd Euphonium to help out in the areas and has not looked
back.
