Return to Band Members

Kelly - Flugel horn

Kelly has recently transferred from front row to Flugel horn. She began her playing at Wardle High School in 1994, and joining HBB in 2001. With Helen Tunnicliffe (2nd Horn), she is a keen roadrunner.

Steve Gardner - Solo horn

Steve started playing the cornet at the age of 9 and soon joined Woodhouse Prize Band in Sheffield. At the age of 14 he was also the principal cornet with the Sheffield Schools Brass Band whose solo trombone was Nick Hudson. He left both these bands at age 18 when he went to Leeds University, playing with Rothwell Temperance band whilst he was there. After meeting Di (rep) he moved to Melton Mowbray and joined South Midlands Welfare Band moving on to Carlton which became Nottingham City Transport Band. Married Di in 1989, moved back to Yorkshire later the same year and joined Hebden Bridge in 1991. Steve played as Principal for many years, moving to 2nd man down in 2004. He has now found his true vocation on Solo Horn.

Tracy Plant - 1st horn

Tracy (Aunty Planty) lives in Elland with her husband Ian (solo Euphonium) and daughters Megan and Bethan. She has played with Hebden Bridge band since 1985, having graduated from Hebden Bridge Juniors. Works at Halifax Plc in Halifax and famous for being the best cook in the band!

Helen Tunnicliffe - 2nd horn

Like other younger band members, Helen started her musical career at Wardle High School. After a break at Durham University, Helen came to Hebden Bridge with her friends, and has been a valued member of the horn section since 2002.
She is one of two road runners in the band, allong with Kelly. Preferring concerts to contests, she is not alone in putting performance above competition.
