Dayle Squires

Dayle joined Hammonds Junior band in 1974 and played with all the bands in the company over time - Hammonds Band B, The Hawley Band and the Hammonds Sauce Works Band. He joined Lewington Yamaha Brass with David James, and was Band secretary for two years, working closely with Bill Lewington, the band's sponsor. The band made radio and TV appearances and several recordings.
Dayle has toured Europe with the Hawley Band and the Young Ambassadors Band of Great Britain. Dayle moved to Stocksbridge Band, and then finally to Yorkshire Building Society under David King. Having played in every major contest arena, Dayle left full-time banding and guested occasionally with various bands until recently becoming settled at Hebden Bridge.

Sam Gardner

Aged 13, Sam is the youngest member of the band.He began playing percussion at age 7 despite encouragement from his parents (Steve and Di, who are also in the band) to play something smaller and more compact. He quickly progressed from owning a single snare drum to a full drum kit with five cymbals, two timpani, a glockenspiel, a full size xylophone, bongos, and various other noisy bits of percussion 'kit'. Sam has been a member of the National Childrens' Orchestra GB for the last five years and also plays with Clifton and Lightcliffe Juniors as well as the North Halifax Grammar School Concert Band, Orchestra and percussion ensemble. Sam is also a member of the Yorkshire Youth Brass Band and regularly plays with Brighouse and Rastrick Band, although he is still too young to become a full member of the band.
He was asked to come along to Hebden Bridge by Philip Wilby, who is a great believer in giving children the opportunity to succeed in music. Sam's favourite instrument is the xylophone, although he enjoys all tuned percussion.
Sam has also recently been filmed by the BBC to star in a TV programme about music. He plays both kit and xylophone in the programme, which airs on the BBC’s children’s channel during 2007/8. The series, called Take a Bow, is made up of 25 mini-programmes showcasing talented children in different art forms. Sam was filmed at the National Railway Museum in York.
He was put forward for the programme by Dr Nicholas Childs who spotted Sam playing in the Yorkshire Youth Brass Band

Steve Rollason

Steve is the band's only driving instructor!! An experienced bandsmen of long standing, Steve makes regular vists when full percussion rehearsals are required. Due to the generosity of the Black Dyke Band, these rehearsals often take place in Queensbury using their valuable full collection of instruments.
